FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS

RISING DAMP

Your objective is for each team to obtain materials in order to build a raft capable of carrying at least four people.  Once built to the satisfaction of safety personnel, teams must then paddle their rafts as quickly as possible across the lake, around the marker buoy, and back to the shore.  The team that completes the course in the fastest time will be deemed the winner, and will receive an appropriate reward.  Advice on suitable designs will be available at the appropriate time, and we have managed to obtain sponsors who will donate materials in return for completing various projects.

Rising Damp is a competitive team building event designed for two or more teams of between four and six people.  These can be separate teams or sub-groups of a larger team.  Based at a truly outstanding training centre in mid-Wales, it has been designed as a residential team building event of 2 nights/1˝ days duration.  Participants arrive in time for dinner on day one, and the event starts immediately after the meal, finishing just before dinner on day two.  We encourage reflection time that evening, and this is followed by a facilitated evaluation on the morning of day three, participants leaving after lunch.  Teams have exclusive use of the centre for the duration of the event, and the stay can be extended if required so that teams can take advantage of additional training as required, or make use of the facilities to hold their own business meeting.

A variety of cerebral and physical activities can be included, the more adventurous including abseiling, archery, blindfold landrover driving, canoeing, high ropes tasks, hill walking, orienteering, mountain biking, pony trekking, and rock climbing – all set in truly breath-taking surroundings.

As with all our team building events, the design of Rising Damp is extremely adaptable so that we are able to ensure that participants gain the greatest possible benefit from their experience.  Although many people are naturally apprehensive about this type of event, we can assure you that we never force people to do anything they do not want to do.  Having said this, we are firm believers in the benefits of personal challenge in a wholly supportive environment, and every participant will come away from this extremely enjoyable experience with a greater understanding of themselves and their colleagues.  All our team days are very positive events with positive outcomes.

THE MERLIN ENIGMA

Near the village of Beddgelert, in the rugged heart of Snowdonia, lies a rocky hillock known as Dinas Emrys, at the top of which are the remains of a fortified tower.  This was the seat of the Emrys family, the most famous member of which was Merlin, wizard to the court of King Arthur.  Some Arthurian scholars believe that the valley in which it lies may be the Vale of Avalon, and that the nearby Llyn Dinas could be the lake into which Arthur threw Excalibur after his last and sadly unsuccessful battle.

There is a local legend that tells of Merlin’s fight with a Dragon – and a curse.  Your objective is to trace the legend and break the curse.

Best described as an adventurous version of our popular Enigma team building exercise, this event is based in central Snowdonia and revolves around a fictional Arthurian Legend.  The complex scenario involves a variety of business-related activities, from planning and problem solving, to communication and negotiation, whilst the physical component comprises a walk of about eight miles through stunning mountain scenery.  During this walk, teams are faced with three tasks, two of which are fairly adventurous, the other being a simple problem solving task but in a memorably unique location!  We never force or coerce participants into doing anything they do not wish to do, so the more adventurous tasks are offered on a strictly voluntary basis, and do not have to be completed by every member of the team in order to guarantee success.  Additionally, although this is arguably our most physical teamday, it is still achievable by all but the most unfit!  Due to the nature of the tasks and the stunning surroundings, it is very different, highly enjoyable, and a great way to bond a new team or reward an existing one.

In order to get the most from this team building experience, we recommend it be run as a residential training event.  This allows people to arrive the night before, and do the initial planning after dinner so that the following day is left free for the “purposeful journey”.  A further night after the event allows participants to celebrate and recover (!), and we can then spend the following morning taking them through a thorough evaluation, the event finishing after lunch.  When run together as described, this makes an extremely cost-effective training package.
